What Are Allergies?

Millions of Americans suffer from nasal allergies, more commonly known as hay fever. Sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and shortness of breath are the body’s response to a foreign substance entering the body.

How We Can Help

Our allergy specialists can help determine which substances are causing your discomfort and develop a treatment plan to make life more enjoyable. Our dedicated nursing staff has specialized training and years of experience and will strive to make your allergy treatment experience positive and productive. Our nurses are members of the American Academy of Otolaryngologic Allergy. Allergy services we can provide include:

  • Multi-prick skin testing for environmental allergies
  • Intradermal skin testing
  • Education about allergy avoidance and environmental controls
  • Instructions on the use of EpiPen injections
  • Immunotherapy program (allergy shots and sublingual therapy)

Learn About Specific Allergic Conditions

Asthma is a very common condition of the lungs; about 25 million Americans experience it. During regular breathing with asthma, the passages within the lungs can become narrow and cause noisy breathing and shortness of breath. Visit our Asthma page to learn more.

Bronchitis is a condition when the bronchi, the passages that carry air from the windpipe to and from the lungs, become inflamed. Bronchitis is a common lower respiratory tract condition, often following a common cold and appearing in children less than five years of age. Visit our Bronchitis page to learn more.

Rhinitis is a condition that typically involves nasal obstruction or congestion, runny nose or post-nasal drip, itchy nose, and/or sneezing. There are various causes for these symptoms, although they are broadly divided into two types: allergic rhinitis and non-allergic rhinitis. Visit our Rhinitis page to learn more.

Sore throats happen to everyone now and then. When you have a sore throat, this can affect speaking, swallowing, or breathing. Infections from viruses or bacteria are the main cause of sore throats, but allergies and sinus infections can also contribute. Visit our Sore Throats page to learn more.
